This course is not theory based but has been specifically developed and designed to provide practical skills that tell you how to prepare effective and comprehensive emergency plans; carry out exercises from a simple seminar to highly complex exercises including finance and cost recovery; how to de-brief exercises and real events to ensure maximum learning and how to implement changes in your organisation. It is fully integrated into the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 Guidance. You will be assisted by templates, checklists, flowcharts, examples, diagrams with useful and relevant assignments.
Containing over 250 pages, 10 modules, 12 assignments, 40 exercises, 40 colour diagrams, charts and tables. And a CD with useful templates and documents for you to use.
The course takes 10 months to complete. It contains 10 modules and is assessed by 12 submitted assignments. Modules include:

Brian Dillon MSc SBCI, a former police Inspector he was a Local Resilience Forum secretary and strategic command centre manager for over 10 years. He was a police trainer responsible for both internal and external training in all aspects of risk crisis and disaster management. Brian is a specialist in exercise planning and management responsible for directing and umpiring major live play exercises, in particular civil nuclear emergencies where he represented the police service at Government level.
Ian Dickinson B.Ed QPM a former Assistant Chief Constable. An experienced Gold Commander having led the Scottish response to terrorist incidents and many major events, incidents and civil emergencies in the Lothian and Borders Area. He has been Course Director for strategic and tactical police public order command courses. He is an associate lecturer at the Cabinet Office Emergency Planning College.
John Williamson Dip FM, MSc, FIFSM, FIFireE was an Assistant Chief Fire officer and commanded many major incidents such as the Piper Alpha platform disaster. John has a Post Graduate Diploma in Forensic Medicine and is a Master of Science. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers and is the current Chairman. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Fire Engineers. He lectures in such disciplines as fire risk assessment and fire safety. He also provides expert forensic evidence for the Courts.
David Brown was a senior emergency planning officer with Lancashire County Council for over 20 years. He is an accomplished presenter and was a trainer for the Local Authority. He has a wide range of emergency planning experience but with a speciality in marine pollution. He has published articles relating to the Sea Empress oil spill disaster.
FAQs
What qualification will I get when I complete?
This course relies on internal accreditation and assessment to ensure consistent quality. The course is affiliated and accredited by the Institute of Fire Safety Managers. Quality is assured in course material, content and assessments by the Board of Advisors. The Board will assess, and where the standards are met will award two levels of achievement, a Certificate and a Diploma. Each qualification will be accompanied by a letter of introduction signed by the Board of Advisors. The objective is to gain the highest quality training with the information and skills that will meet your demands and expectations. This course will do that.
Can I complete the course in less time?
Yes. The 10 month period relates to the maximum time you will have dedicated on line support from the experts and the period within which assignments will be marked. You will have that 10 month support and advice line even if you complete in less time. Within that time you can ask any emergency planning related questions.
Can I take a break from my studies?
Yes. Up to 3 months with agreement of the Board in writing, making your course period 13 months in all but you will not have on line support within that maximum of three months. After a period of 13 months the online support and marking will cease.
What happens if I stop the course can I get my money back?
